Acknowledgements and Resources

This virtual museum draws on stories and experiences of people who live in the province of Manitoba, primarily within Treaty 2 territory, but also Treaty 1 territory and the homeland of the Métis nation. These Treaty relationships can be explored and viewed here (https://scoinc.mb.ca/treaties/).

This museum is the result of a collaboration among several people and partner organizations.

This museum, as a place to encounter information, photos and stories is a work in progress. The first step was to create this online platform and the next will be to seek further funding opportunities to continue to develop stories and digitize physical archives. Please keep in mind that there are other experiences and encounters with oil extraction in Manitoba that are not yet featured. For example, there are many Indigenous and Métis stories about encountering and working with oil and gas extraction in Manitoba that hopefully will be featured in future exhibits. There are conversations around reconciliation and climate change in Canada that need to hear the voices of the people and places that live with oil extraction everyday. Below is a short list of a few resources that can be accessed for those who may have further questions.
