This is a core sample from the Virden Manitoba regulatory office of the Manitoba Petroleum Branch. Core samples indicate where oil might be found with this type of shale rock formation. The Manitoba Geoglogical Survey has a whole rock library of these from all across Manitoba (for other minerals as well) held in Winnipeg.
